Technical

My first camera was a Pentax Spotmatic borrowed from my father. I was desperate for a Nikon F but they were expensive. I saved up for a couple of lenses and a x2 extender which turned my poor 200mm lens into a 400mm with horrendous distortion at the edges. It didn’t put me off shooting wildlife as I grew up in Kenya and it was all on our doorstep. I built my own darkroom and taught myself to process and print.

I’ve continued to use film cameras ever since, including Nikon, Leica, Mamiya, Hasselblad X-Pan, Pentax 6x7, Holga and Minox but my all-time favourite camera will always be the Leica M6 with a 35mm f2 lens. Gear doesn’t always matter but the Leica suited me perfectly.
It was stolen.

I’ve recently gone digital as well with a Nikon D3 and a D700. I’m currently using Nikkor 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 AF zoom lenses, 80-200 f2.8 AF and a Zeiss 85mm f1.4 manual focus lens.

Like most photographers I’ve got different tripods and heads tucked away and drawers full of filters, cable releases, flash guns, reflectors and camera bags.
