Fans!

In June 2002, Turkey beat Senegal by a single goal scored in extra time to reach the semi-finals of the football World Cup. Green Lanes in north London filled with Turkish fans of all ages, waving flags, sounding car horns in celebration of their team’s victory. Within hours the street erupted – there was music, dancing, drinking, unbridled joy at their footballing success. I walked out with my camera and as much film as I could find and recorded the day. These pictures are just the beginning of what was an extraordinary spontaneous event. There's more to come.

Turkey lost by a single goal to Brazil in the semi-final but they beat the Korean Republic 3-2 for third place.
